
Forced leave for a good majority of the 250 employees of the Grand Mauritian Resort & Spa in Balaclava. While some staff is mobilized for cleaning after the fire Sunday, Oct. 9 that destroyed seven houses, the main restaurant and the reception of the hotel, the rest of the team enjoys one week forced rest.
However, doubts that existed about their employment was dispelled Wednesday, October 12, following a meeting with management.
According to Ron Iohanz Bhoyroo, Marketing & Communications Manager at Le Meridien, Starwood's other hotel in Mauritius with the St. Regis (which is scheduled to open March 15, 2012), no redundancy or is laid off at the the agenda.
He speaks instead of rest for certain employees so they can recover from their emotions. "This is from Monday, October 17 they will be contacted individually to see where they will be redeployed , "he said, without further of accuracy.
Meanwhile, the Grand Mauritian is no longer accepting any reservations until further notice. For clients who stayed in this hotel, they have been for some relocated at Le Meridien in Pointe-aux-Fruits, while others were sent to various hotel establishments of the island, in the same range or higher than five stars.
The hotel chain Starwood has 250 employees at the Grand Mauritian, 450 for Le Meridien and a score already in service at the St Regis, which will open March 15, 2012 at Le Morne in the south of the island.
The side of the Grand Mauritian, has not been able to tell us the date of resumption.
