An initiative of Institute of Social Development and Peace (ISDP), the workshop aims to promote the concept of good governance, understand the nexus between wastage, corruption and poverty, reflect on functioning of institutions and how to tackle the problem.Eminent personalities including ISDP honorary president Cassam Uteem, MPs Nita Deerpalsing and Alan Ganoo, minister Leela Devi Dookun, chief executive of Financial Services Commission (FSC) Clairette Ah-Hen as well as several academics debated the topic.
“We are living in troubled times and are faced with multiple crises, which are impacting the poor. If governance is of unethical nature, it will not eradicate poverty,” said Sheila Bunwaree, lecturer at UoM. ISDP was established in 2005 with a view to working towards the promotion of sustainable development, eradication of poverty, promotion of peace and security in the Southern African region.
