Shoprite Group reached an agreement with Kaddy Plus in September to take over its stores at Tamarin and Port Louis.
According to sources, the Shoprite store at Tamarin will also open soon as final preparations are going on.
The two new stores acquired in Mauritius will offer food products including well-known brands, as well as a small range of non-food items.
It will have both locally produced and internationally sourced products.
Shoprite opened its first 8,000 square metre store in Mauritius at Trianon in November 2002.
It made history by achieving the highest turnover ever recorded for a single opening day of trade in Mauritius.
The Shoprite Group operates 1,247 corporate and 276 franchise outlets in 16 countries across Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands and reported a turnover of $10,68 billion for the 52 weeks which ended June 2011.
The group employs more than 95,000 people, of whom some 11,000 are employed in the group’s operations outside of South Africa.
The retailer plans to open a further 106 new stores in the current financial year, of which 74 will be supermarkets.
