The new form can be scanned and sent electronically. The data can then be automatically entered at the MRA.
“A lot of people find it hard or tedious to file all their data electronically. The new form allows them to file it as a paper return or scan it and send it online. This will make data entry easier for the MRA too. Long gone are the days of data entry operators,” said a source at the MRA.
“This move is yet another transition step towards the objective of achieving 100 per cent online tax returns by 2013,” added the person.
MRA officially launched its online service, the Electronic Current Payment System (E-CPS) on June 1. Sixty-seven per cent of the returns received this year were filed electronically. The 100 per cent online returns by 2013, is in line with the ‘Maurice Ile Durable’ concept.
