This premiere will welcome contestants from Indian Ocean countries, namely Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Mayotte, South Africa and Réunion Island.
Each country will be represented by one team, except for the host island, which will have two teams. The elimination rounds for this contest will be held locally on Thursday at Sir Gaetan Duval culinary school, Ebène. Four schools, namely Constance Academy, JR School, Vatel Mauritius and the Sir Gaetan Duval School have registered their participation for the contest.
The jury will be presided over by Allan Payen from l’Association des Chefs de Maurice to select the team which will represent the country on the sister island.
The criteria and selection conditions for the elimination and final rounds are the same, involving two students from each team, from which one will be assessed for culinary talents and one for table dressing talents revolving around the theme ‘Canard a l’Orange revisité’.
The winning team will receive the ‘Meilleurs jeunes talants de l’Océan Indien’ trophy and a training for two persons in a prestigious hotel of Mauritius or Reunion Island. The first and second runner ups will receive the ‘Prix excellence jeunes espoirs de l’Ocean Indien’ and the ‘Honneur jeunes espoirs de l’Ocean Indien’ trophies respectively. Aside from this they will each receive professional kitchen and restaurant equipment.
