Perception Of Corruption: Mauritius Back In The Rankings of Transparency International

Maurice goes from 39th to 42nd place in the world ranking of perception of corruption by Transparency International on Thursday 1st December. The Corruption Perceptions Index is a photograph of the perception of the private sector on the public sector on good governance in 183 countries.

Transparency Mauritius is concerned about this downward trend. The NGO points out the numerous investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ICAC). She believes that the perception that such investigations would be slow to reach the main reason for the opinion of international experts.

The NGO that campaigns for good governance estimates that the acquisition of clinical MedPoint overvalued price of Rs 144.7 million represents most of the ICAC slow to produce results.

"In addition to this investigation, the case Chady, Betamax, among others, and the damning revelations of Wikileaks in terms of the fight against fraud and corruption led international observers to question the independence and the means to action of our institutions, " said Transparency International.

Special treatment is the case Khamajeet, whose origin statements on the alleged interference of politicians in recruitment within the public service. The NGO believes that this case is to throw "a little more doubt on the practices of the political class." It calls on policy to move towards greater transparency and a better guarantee of independence.

"This is a prerequisite for the political class Mauritian found confidence of the international observers, but also and especially that of our fellow citizens," writes Transparency International.

Decline also on the African in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2011 , Maurice ceding second place to the benefit of Cape Verde (41st in the world) and ends up in third place while the Botswana remains at the first position (on the 32nd world).

Transparency International hopes that this paper will serve as a reminder to lower the order policies in the fight against corruption.
