Customs security is at stake The MoU between the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and the Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) to better control the import of radioactive radiation emitting devices also provides training sessions to for customs so they can protect themselves from radioactive sources. Under the terms of the agreement, Customs will not allow the import of radiation-emitting devices unless the consignee is able to produce an import permit issued by the RPA. Otherwise, the customs will hold the load in a safe place that poses no risk to workers and members of the public. The agreement aims to control the importation of all types of radioactive radiation emitting devices, which are regularly imported into Mauritius for nuclear medicine, industrial radiography, research or road construction. |
The two signatories, the RPA and MRA, will also have talks on the need to install detectors devices emitting radioactive sources at entry points in Mauritius at the port and airport to prevent smuggling radioactive sources.
