UoM: Ministry Gives Green Light For BSc Textile...
Earlier this week, the University of Mauritius (UoM) obtained the green light from the Ministry of Tertiary Education to dispense courses of BSc Textile & Fabric Design/ BSc Fashion & Technology which had been canceled.

Fashion & Technology which had been canceled.

Thus, the department of Fashion Textile of the institution will not be associated with the Fashion and Design Institute.

After several weeks of struggle, students who are enrolled in BSc Textile & Fabric Design and BSc Fashion & Technology may at last be relieved. Both courses will be offered by UoM after being approved by the Ministry of Tertiary Education. A meeting was also conducted a few weeks ago. Those concerned have been receiving their letter of offer since Wednesday.

The Ministry had earlier sent a letter to UoM requesting the cancellation of these two courses to encourage enrollment to Fashion and Design Institute (IDF). The department of UoM Fashion and Textile has always been reluctant to join the IDF, preferring to retain its independence for reasons of credibility, infrastructure and recognition of qualifications.

Many parents have exerted pressure for the BSc Textile & Fabric Design and BSc Fashion & Technology courses to be re instituted, some even threatened to take legal actions.
