The ceremony was held in the State House of Seychelles and the local authorities had red carpet for the representative of Mauritius.
Until this morning, that Maurice had consular representation in Seychelles and in the opinion of many observers, political and economic Seychelles, this appointment fills a gap in the relationship between Victoria and Port Louis.
Marie-France Roussety, former minister and diplomat, will be the first Ambassador of Mauritius to Seychelles with residence in Mauritius.
Mauriciano-Seychelles relations have always been driven by strong affinities. The two countries share the same ocean, the same language and are part of the island. But in recent years, these relationships were more formalized by President James Michel and Dr Navin Ramgoolam. Both countries have recently made history by making a request to the United Nations for the joint management of a marine shelf 396 sq. kms of their exclusive economic zones. Agreements were also signed in June for increased cooperation in the field of health and education exchange programs with professionals.
Beyond the relations between states, the inauguration of Marie France Roussety just give a new impetus to human relations between the two countries, relations too long neglected in the past, especially for the hundreds of Mauritians living in the Seychelles as residents or as permanent employees of the tourism industry and the financial sector.
