The publication which rewards excellence in the banking industry across the world, noted that the Bank of The Year award is meant to reward solid management, a good strategy and a prudent approach in the face of prevailing risks.
Other reasons that made MCB to be given the award included establishment of 40 branches with 166 ATM machines, excellent customer care service, continued investment in training, constant investment in the new information and communication technologies, a coherent Corporate Social Responsibility program with 2 percent of all its profits being channelled to social programs, an expanding international network and the desire to transform itself into "the Bank of Banks" in Africa.
MCB is the market leader in the Mauritius banking sector, both in the area of Retail banking or Corporate banking.
The bank holds the biggest market capitalization at the Mauritius Stock Exchange and it's also ranked in the first position among the banks in Indian Ocean and East Africa region.
