“Water supply will be reduced to once per day, for four to five hours, in eastern regions such as Flacq, Lallmatie or Bel-Air,” he said.
CWA chairman Prem Saddul stated the rest of the island is in a moderately critical situation. “Contrary to what was expected, the region of Plaines Wilhems is stable.
The CWA is expecting some rain mid-January onwards. We are pumping river water and treating it for distribution as the water level in reservoirs and boreholes is going down sharply. Around 10,000 metre cubes of river water is being pumped daily,” he said.
Saddul added the authority is expecting the right climatic conditions around mid-January for the formation of cyclones to bring in rain.
“The sea water temperature has to reach 36.5 degrees Celsius for this to happen. The CWA is striving to maintain the quality of potable water for now,” he said.
