Port Disrupted by a Go-Slow
Operations at the Cargo Handling Corporation (CHC) were idle Monday with the decision of workers to a 'go-slow' due to their disagreement with the recently proposed scale of wage increases.

Providing a press briefing Monday, Gassen Dorsamy, Managing Director of HCC, has appealed to workers to stop the strike with their zeal. "Workers are asked to stop with the go-slow. Management is open to all discussions, "he said, announcing that the workers have 30 days to submit their grievances.

The workers, standing their ground. Alain Edouard, president of the Port Louis Maritime Employees Association, said they will decide what to do on Tuesday.

Employees' decision known on Tuesday

It is Tuesday at noon, the Port Louis Maritime Employees Association (PLMEA) will hold a special general meeting to decide what to do about employees of the Cargo Handling Corporation (CHC). Since venredi, in the direction of the CHC, employees began a 'go-slow' to express their disagreement with the wage revision announced a few days ago.

In a statement Monday Matinal, Alain Edouard say that employees rejected en bloc salarials revision was proposed to them. "We reject en bloc wage report because it provides only 13% to 18% increase when management announced an increase of over 30%. The employees are really disappointed. We feel that our rights are being violated, "said the president of the PLMEA.

Monday was a scheduled meeting with the conciliation and mediation committee chaired by Professor Ved Torul. During the meeting, employees were asked to submit their complaints, but they were not ready. Hence the decision by management to give employees one month to prepare their list of grievances. However, says Alain Edouard, "Monday's meeting did not result in any agreement and management has declared that she was not going to pay."
