Work will be performed soon on the beach of the village of Morne to stop erosion. The news, announced last Thursday by two members of the government, and Deva Virahsawmy Hervé Aimée, respectively Minister of the Environment and Local Government, was welcomed by the villagers. But they want more precision with regard to the opening of this site.
The two ministers were visiting the village along with various partners, including consultants and fishermen. This is a project that is timely and to which many former advisers have advocated. "It's been expected of such work and we were anxious to see the speed at which the surface of our beaches are shrinking due to erosion," says Allan Ramalingum, chairman of the village of Le Morne.
He was present during the visit and said he was very satisfied with the proposals made by the two ministers. "There will be primarily installing gabions on the beach in order to curb the damage caused by the waves. These facilities should extend over a distance of 530 meters, "he said. The President added that work to redevelop the beach and provide many other facilities are also provided.
TREES UPROOTED
The village council hopes that this work begin as soon as possible. "The erosion has reached enormous proportions and it took action to stop it," said for his part Verloppe Antonio, fisherman and advisor village. It shows us how much erosion has eaten the extent of beaches. The trees are almost uprooted the grass that once held the sand has been washed away. The memorial to fishermen lost at sea is in very bad shape.
But the villagers are keen and there had recently been renovated. But it was useless against the fury of the waves at high tide. This monument will be moved to be installed a little more inside. "Within 15 years, the sea has eaten twenty meters of beach. The place where children played football before now invaded by the sea, "says Antonio Verloppe.
