Six unions of private and public and some 200 delegates gathered this Thursday, October 3, at Rabita Hall , Port-Louis, to discuss the amount of salary compensation to be paid in January. And all agreed on an amount to between Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
Unions submit their memorandum to the Minister of Finance, Xavier-Luc Duval, in the course of the day. They insist that it is then the tripartite committee, chaired by the Minister to decide the quantum of compensation and not the technical committee , which is not authorized to do so.
They recommend that employees earning less than Rs 5,660 have a compensation of Rs 1000.And those earning more than Rs 13,330, Rs 500.
They also asked that staff also receive compensation. As for now, the exercise does not affect those employed in the public service.
