Wasteland at Quatre Bornes: Fine Is Rs 25,000

To discourage those who leave their land fallow, the city of Quatre-Bornes has decided to increase the fine for such an offense. It goes from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. The city has identified 937 brownfields and the number of complaints against such pollution from urban dwellers is increasing.
Regions of Belle-Rose, Ebony, Trianon and the old Quatre-Bornes have a total of 519 brownfields whereas Basin and Palma, there are 232. These lands are mainly in residential areas. In many cases, the owners are not known to the authorities, or are not in the country.
Concerned neighbors
Wild lands are sources of concern for the people beside them. " Some places are dens for attackers or thieves , "says Shyam Khemloliva, chairman of the Health Committee of the city.
Sometimes the mayor began cleaning derelict land, but this process costs a lot. "We regularly publish notices in the press inviting people to clean their land. The townspeople are warned. They have 15 days to clean up their property. We will take care of the land of those who are not in Mauritius, but they will be fined for their return and will reimburse , "warned Shyam Khemloliva.
