This new slot is actually recruiting a hundred doctors to work in Canada. After plumbers, masons, industrial painters, truck drivers and mechanics, another perspective hiring thus opens for Mauritians.
Karan Emerit says that the project is in the negotiation phase and if all goes as planned, the contracts will be finalized soon. Canada will establish a medical association to carry out the interviews.
The Program Manager added that the benefit show Mauritian candidates is their bilingualism. Already in January, 13 of 15 nurses were selected to work in Canada. However, their departure is delayed because they have to go through a career before getting their visas, says the Program Manager. The circular migration program has been the subject of an agreement signed between Mauritius, France and Canada in 2010.
This agreement allowed a growing number of job opportunities abroad. This strategy has been set up by the government to diversify the economy. For 2013, 56 Mauritians were recruited through circular migration.
