Lawyers exempt from wearing gowns

In a press release issued yesterday, the secretary of the Bar Council informed its members of the temporary exemption from the wearing of robes by lawyers at the New Court House, pending replacement of the ventilation system.

The Bar Association had requested that they be exceptionally exempted from wearing gowns in court, because of the heat which continues at New Court House. This building houses the district courts of Port-Louis, the Bail and Remand Court, the intermediate court, the industrial court and the financial division. The secretary of the Bar Council had sent an initial correspondence to the Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court after the breakdown of the ventilation system at the New Court House, citing the complaints of a barrister who had suffered severe dizziness due to the extreme heat .

Les deux requêtes ont été acceptées et les pauses seront autorisées après une requête d’un avocat qui souhaite marquer une interruption momentanée lors des séances en cour.
