As part of the Palmar Master Plan, the former site of the breeding station was identified by the Ministry of Housing, Regional Planning and Tourism for development projects.
With this in mind, a call for tenders was launched for development proposals from potential investors and promoters for the development of tourism-related projects. The Palmar Master Plan covers an area of 238 acres and 10 perches of land.
This master plan includes several components:
- (a) three hotel sites with a total area of 80 acres with direct access to the coastal road overlooking the public beach;
- (b) seven sites for tourism-related projects between 6 and 7 acres each;
- (c) a site for an ecotourism project with an area of 45A64, located near several wetlands, which can also be integrated into a development proposal on the theme of water;
- (d) two commercial complexes (shopping complex, nightclub, pubs, casinos and cinema) with an area of 23A66 and 15A76;
- (e) a restaurant site with an area of 2 acres:
- (f) a retirement home site with an area of 17A41;
- (g) a craft market site with an area of 4A80 and
- green spaces and a common desalination plant.
All on-site infrastructure will be developed under a cost-sharing mechanism.
Potential investors are invited to submit their project proposals to the Economic Development Council no later than November 24, 2023.
