A newly-incorporated company in Reunion Island, known as Skipper Sky, is currently negotiating for partnerships to be able to offer low-cost flights from Reunion to Mauritius and vice versa at 90 Euros (Rs3,600).
According to the blueprint for the project, the company would initially have three Airbus aircraft which would be leased over a period of six to 12 years to be able to reduce servicing costs, namely two passenger A320 airbus with an 180- seat capacity and an A330 freighter.
The man behind the project, Mr Jean Christophe Pothin, a former technician who worked at Air France and Air Mediterranee, will have to drum up funding of Euros 2.5 to Euros 5 million to make it happen.
Mr Pothin said that the objective of setting up Skipper Sky would be to allow people of Reunion to be able to travel in the region at very low cost.
“I left Airbus to be able to be able to set up this company. I am determined to provide low-cost air tickets over the whole Indian Ocean region and participate in the economic development and emancipation of our overseas territory,” he added.
