The Opposition has submitted some 50 parliamentary questions for the next sitting. Of these, a dozen are addressed to Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam.
Issues to be raised include the code of conduct for parliamentarians, the gunshot that was fired on May 1, the impact of the National Aids Committee’s work, the code of ethics for advertising agencies and obesity.
MP Aadil Ameer Meea wants to ask the PM about the conditions under which the next elections will be held. Meea wants to know if the PM will consider bringing amendments in view of the forthcoming elections, to introduce and implement code of conduct to govern the political parties and the candidates, and the electronic voting system.
MP Veda Baloomoody will ask the PM “whether with regard to the gunshot which was fired at the VIPSU office on May 1, he will inquire from the police commissioner the circumstances of same and state if action has been taken against the police sergeant.”
MMM secretary general Rajesh Bhagwan wants to question the head of the government on the existence of an Independent Broadcasting Committee.
He also wants to know if there is a code of ethics for advertising agencies and the number of permits that were issued to private radio stations. His other question will be about the number of people who have received Mauritian citizenship since 2005.
MP Satish Boolell will ask the minister of Finance and Economic Development Pravind Jugnauth about the number of projects that was funded by CSR funds.
MP Alan Ganoo will ask the minister of Local Government and Outer Islands Hervé Aimée about the news doing the rounds that a monthly fee of Rs 50 will be imposed on each household to collect garbage.
MP Françoise Labelle will address her question to minister of Health Maya Hanoomanjee. She will ask the minister for more information on the treatment available in public hospitals for people suffering from obesity.
MP Kee Cheong Li Kwong Wing will question minister of Housing and Lands Abu Kasenally about the number of foreign nationals who have benefited from state lands.
