Nine travel agents from Jordan are currently on the island for a familiarisation trip (FAM trip). They have been invited by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), along with the initiative taken by the Emirates Airlines.
On Tuesday, the MTPA convened a meeting at its office with the travel agents to express their expectations and vision, and promote the upscale activities and facilities offered by such tropical islands as Mauritius to the Jordanian tourists.
With a population of 6.5 million, Jordan is an important potential market. Mauritius can be an attractive destination for its niche travellers since the flight via Dubai to the Indian Ocean lasts eight hours.
The travel agents were amazed by Mauritius and said that they want to make it their best ‘out of the world’ destination.
Director of MTPA Karl Mootoosamy said, “Mauritius has the potential of becoming a niche destination for gold, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE), weddings”.
He added, “Mauritius has five star golf courses some of them designed by great international golf professionals like Bernhard Langer and Ernie Els. The island also offers a variety of specialised facilities and equipment”.
