HSBC on tree planting spree at Chamarel

On May 21, 18 HSBC employees volunteered to clean, weed and replant endemic plants at the pristine Chamarel Ebony Forest.

This was to mark the World Biodiversity Day celebrated on May 22.

The event is in line with this year’s World Environment Day theme, ‘Forests: Nature at your Service’.

Amélie Desvaux de Marigny, HSBC manager of corporate sustainability and public affairs, said the bank is committed to managing the social and environmental impact of the business.“We believe that getting involved in the activities we support gives the projects a better chance to succeed. This is why colleagues are encouraged to participate in many diverse activities each year,” said Desvaux de Marigny.

The HSBC volunteers were able to visit Chamarel Ebony Forest, where they had the oppurtunity and privilege of seeing a Coq des Bois, a rare bird species.

Jean Claude Sevathian, scientist from the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation, was part of the journey.

He shared his knowledge, experience on the importance of preserving endemic plants and forests. HSBC volunteers planted more than 50 endemicplants.
