Singaporean State visit to Mauritius from June 4-7

Mr Sellapan Ramanathan, President of Singapore, will address the House

Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will today table a special motion for a special sitting of the National Assembly on Tuesday, June 7, so that Mr Sellapan Ramanathan, President of Singapore, can address the House.

The president will be making a State visit to Mauritius from June 4- 7 at the head of a delegation comprising members of government and the private sector.

During his visit, he will pay courtesy calls on the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, and the prime minister. The Singaporean president will also participate in a Business Forum. The University of Mauritius will confer on him the degree Honoris Causa.

Today’s National Assembly sitting will pass several bills – five Speaking Union Bills (Arabic, Bhojpuri, Chinese, Creole and Sanskrit), the Preliminary Enquiry (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, the International Criminal Court Bill, the Senior Citizens Council (Amendment) Bill, the Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies Bill and the Law Practioners (Amendment) Bill.
