The Business Process Outsourcing sector (BPO) in Mauritius is experience high growth,

The consulting firm, Frost and Sullivan, in its latest report has noted that the BPO sector generated revenues worth $ 200 million in 2009.

The report also indicated that by 2017, the BPO sector will register significant growth and generate revenues worth Rs 23 billion.

It also explained that the business environment, the government’s policy and fiscal measures as well as sound economic measures have facilitated the growth of the sector.

Moreover, a strong financial sector and good performance of the tourism and hospitality sector served to improve the capability of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, which has generated value added services in the BPO sector.

The facilities offered by the Board of Investment (BoI) and the Finance ministry helped in setting up businesses as well as to stimulate the sector to make it an important pillar of the economy.

They also offered expertise to stimulate the sector. Mauritius has been able to provide quality services by setting up data centres as well as constructing green data centres to make the sector more profitable.

However, the report points out at the insufficient salaries paid out to employees who are graduates and this could adversely affect growth in the BPO sector.

The promotion of the 24/7 culture is a way to encourage more talented young people with academic degrees to join the BPO sector and contribute to its growth.
