As the 44th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius is fast approaching, we must not forget that our island neighbors are mostly known in the same colonial history. The museum of Port-Louis has worked with the Organization For Diaspora Initiatives (ODI) and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) for exposure in the World Travels of Capricorn.
It allows, through the eyes of artists, to an overview of the literature of the countries of the Indian Ocean. For Callixte d'Offay, secretary general of the IOC, "the 42 paintings used to embrace the Creole culture and expose the 23 million inhabitants of the Indian Ocean area the foundations of our common history."
The exhibition will then be exported to other islands in the region. An initiative to strengthen ties of friendship between the five member countries of the IOC and exceed the challenges they face. " All these islands were Siamese geographically and politically connected, and have a common history and destiny, hence the need for joint action between them , "said Mookhesswur Choonee, Minister of Arts and Culture.
There is not so long, the Indian Ocean islands were under the tutelage of the French and English. A shared history that has contributed to the rapprochement of nations, for an exhibition that traces the experience a little of that time.
" Art is one of the gateways that should remind us that there is more that unites us what separates us , "said Mookhesswur Choonee. As for the IOC, it relies on these networks to sustain the sense of community unique to the Indian Ocean, and ensures that this project will create others.
