The experiment of the robot 'Berenson'au Quai Branly Museum in April will be made possible with contributions from researchers in robotics laboratory ETIS Cergy and the Institute for Research and Development in anthropology. Which the Mauritian Ramesh Caussy.

The Mauritian Ramesh Caussy, who lives in France, will be at the heart of a unique experiment from 14 to 22 April 2012 at the Quai Branly museum located on the Seine near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It will be a world first. This will demonstrate that an interaction between a robot and man is in the realm of possibility.

"By immersing a food in the heart of the collections, the museum offers to work on an interactive learning model of the emergence of a form of Artificial Beauty (EA) in a machine. Accompanied by a roboticist and an anthropologist, the robot then analyzes the behavior of visitors to forge a sense of observation and develop his own sense of aesthetics. Alongside a mediator involved, visitors and participating in a unique experience in helping to define the criteria for assessments of the robot , "it said in the notice of presentation of the exhibition.

However, this objective is not limited to the possibility of interaction. The designers of this approach believe that this interaction can potentially lead to the genesis of an artificial aesthetic. That is to say, an appreciation of aesthetics from an angle where robotics plays a role. In short, a great first attempt in the field of aesthetics.

It is not by chance that this experiment is taking place at the Quai Branly Museum. Located in the heart of Paris, this museum illustrates the determination of the former French president Jacques Chirac to create a space whose mission is to preserve and conserve the arts and civilizations of Asia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas which would otherwise be doomed to extinction. It contains, among other things, the combined collections of the Laboratory of Ethnology Museum of Man and of the exhibits at once the oldest museum of Arts of Africa and Oceania.

"This research will allow us to draw lessons on the design of major technological building blocks needed to process such interactions. The results of this experiment may well be industrialized and developed in Mauritius, create value and jobs indirectly. The digital economy and robotics are truly an axis of value creation and employment , "says Ramesh Caussy which is a research associate in the digital economy and innovation from the Polytechnic School and founding president of Partnering Robotics. The results from this experiment will serve as reference for the creation of new uses and industrialization of the platform.

This experiment would not have been possible without the contribution of robotics researchers ETIS Cergy laboratory and the Institute for Research and Development in Anthropology with Dr. Denis Vidal, Philippe Gaussier Mathias Quoy and research laboratories of the project.

The immersion of the robot among visitors will achieve three major objectives. First, develop a model that could cause the robot to participate in the activity in which he is involved. Then, tracking the emergence of any form of artificial aesthetic from the robot. Finally, the appreciation in terms of anthropological " collections therein . "
