Consultations between the Mauritian Association Author Composer (AACM) and the Minister of Culture, Mookeshwar Choonee, will continue this Tuesday, April 24. Several items will be discussed between both parties, including the amendments to be made to the Copy Rights Act of 1997.
Among the claims of the association, include the introduction of a "levy" on electronic media such as CD, Bluetooth devices or mp3. The president of the CAMC, these are products that are often used by the public to access music files for free. "What causes enormous damage to the artists. We therefore call for a levy on these devices to benefit the arts community, "said Zanzak Arjoon.
The association also claims that the amendments make provisions to allow the Mauritius Society of Authors (MASA) to be able to offer legal assistance to artists hacked. " We also hope that the society of authors get into law so they can call the Internet Service Providers engaged in such illegal downloading , "he said.
Zanzak Arjoon also hopes that the Department of Arts and Culture submit a draft of amendments to the ACCM.
Note that on June 23, the ACCM held a peaceful demonstration in the streets of Rose Hill, on the occasion of the celebration of the feast of music. The march will end with a concert held at the Plaza.
