The project has been proposed by the JSS Academy of Technical Education, Mauritius and will also receive full support from the ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology as well as Mauritius Research Council.
Representatives from the JSS Academy of Technical Education, Mauritius met the minister of Tertiary Education Dr Rajesh Jeetah last week to discuss the project.
Speaking to The Independent, Dr Jeetah highlighted his ministry’s interest in the implementation of the project.
He said: “It is a very good initiative whereby my ministry will offer all the necessary facilities. In fact, the ministry of Finance has already released the funds. The incubator centre will help to boost those youth who want to have their own company and become their own boss.”
In the first instance, JSS Academy will rent the former building of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) at Forest Side and will eventually buy a plot of land to house the incubator centre.
The minister also pointed out that the creation of an incubator centre is essential due to the growing number of graduates. “With the rising number of graduates in the country, we need to find solutions. Jobs are available in the private sector, government, but there is a necessity for more job opportunities in entrepreneurship, ,” he added.
Dr Jeetah stressed on the role of his ministry which is acting as a facilitator. “The process is on and JSS Academy has the expertise and knowledge to go ahead with the project.”
“We should make maximum use of resources available as soon as possible. Why should a graduate waste time before becoming an entrepreneur? It is better for the young graduates to set up their own enterprise now and it will be beneficial for the country,” he added.
