A delegation from Middlesex University met the minister of Tertiary Education, Rajesh Jeetah last week to discuss the expansion project.
Jeetah lauded this initiative of the University and said that his ministry was willing to give full support. “The branch of Middlesex University is a true example of success of international institutions in Mauritius. They have now expressed their ambition to grow bigger even if they have been here for only two and half years,” he said.
The minister added that two sites namely Pamplemousses and Montagne Blanche have been identified where the new campus could be set up.
“These two sites cover 50 acres each. They can either use part of the tower which will be built for public universities or they can opt for a plot of land to make their own development,” underlined the minister.
Jeetah also requested Middlesex University to offer new courses such as Nanotechnology to the students.
The vice-chancellor of the University, Margaret House, said to The Independent, “We have discussed the possible future relationship concerning the public-private partnership initiatives which the government is encouraging. Our campus has proved to be successful and we are confident that we will increase our capacity very soon”.
House stressed that they are hoping to double the number of their students by next September.
New courses including Public Relations, Advertising and Media, International Tourism and Hospitality will be introduced next year.
