ID Cards: Offices Across the Country

Behind the scenes, it was noted that the office of the National Identity Card, in Port Louis, will be decentralized. There will be offices around the country. Thus, those who must apply for an ID card may contact the office located in their locality. 

It remains for the government to decide whether the new identity cards will bear the signature of the holder or rather his fingerprint . The cards will be issued to the public for free the first time. But those who have lost their card and that will make a request to get a new one will have to pay a substantial sum. 

"We are still under discussion and the sum of Rs 500 was raised. But everything will depend on the government's decision. " 

Right now, the service of the National Identity Card (NIC) of Mauritius is facing big problems with people who lose their ID card too often. Mostly, these are the same people returning for a new ID card. 

The government is also considering the possibility that adolescents have their national identity card. 

They will have to register to obtain. Currently, the identity card is issued to young people who reach 18 years.
