Alleged Corruption at BOI: Two New Arrests

Two new people have been arrested this Tuesday, July 10, 2012 by CCID as part of the investigation into the granting of residence permits to foreigners by the BOI. A Mauritian and Reunion are the protagonists of this trafficking network uncovered after the arrest of the couple Tokuart on June 17.

The investigation into the scandal of residence permits granted by the Board Of Investment (BOI) is making great strides. The Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) arrested Iqbal Mohabuth Reunion and Jean Francelin Taye this Tuesday, July 10, 2012. They are accused of forgery and uttering forged documents, according to the lawyer of one of two suspects.

Iqbal Mohabuth was heard Tuesday, July 10, 2012 for more than six hours to CCID, in Port Louis. The suspect, who has retained the services of Mr. Ashley Hurranghee, gave details about his contacts within the BOI or other institutions to facilitate licensure by foreigners.

Iqbal Mohabuth is considered an intermediate in the trafficking network uncovered on June 17. Investigators questioned him about his involvement in this matter. At this stage, very few details have leaked out the side of investigators. According to our information, it should be presented in court Wednesday for a provisional charge of "forgery".

As for the Reunion Francelin John Taye, it was also heard by the investigators during the day Tuesday, but it is unclear what he is accused. The two men interviewed remained in police custody. They are expected in court in Port Louis on Wednesday, according to sources close to investigators.

Note that the couple Tokuart expected this Tuesday, July 10 was not presented to the CCID for the purposes of investigation. They are currently in the Reunion Island for medical treatment. This Wednesday, July 11, they will appear in court but will be absent from the hearing.

However a source close to the French couple, they will return soon in Mauritius to continue to record their depositions.
