Inicia Face Fines for Failing to Comply Law Requirements

The company Inicia Ltd (formerly Oeudor) was taken in contravention with the "Consumer Protection Unit" (CPU). The reason: refusal to comply with a provision of the "Consumer Protection Act" which requires all companies operating in the agri-food sector to provide basic details on profit margins .

Inicia Ltd. The company based in Wooton, Curepipe, risk a fine ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. This after he refused to disclose the amount of its profits to the Department of Trade and Industry.According to the Consumer Protection (supply and control) Act 1998, all businesses engaged in the sale of basic food must inform the Ministry of its profit margin. The direction of Inicia has, meanwhile, refused to disclose this information to the CPU.

Faced with this refusal, the officers of the Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) raided the premises of the company on Thursday 1st November to convince one last time, the company to comply with the law. They also refused.

"We were obliged to give them a ticket. The offender liable to a fine ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000, "says Amarteep Seetohul officer to the CPU.

The management of the company will soon appear in court.
