This former student of the Royal College of Curepipe is Associate Professor at Carleton University, Canada. Meanwhile, he is a Research Associate on behalf of the North-South Institute in Ottawa.

Yiagadeesen Samy is one of the many Mauritians, from modest families, who settled in Canada and had an impressive academic and professional career. His father, now deceased, worked as an assistant restaurant manager at the psychiatric hospital of Beau Bassin. Her mother, worked in a factory zone. Since 1 July 2009, he was associate professor at Carleton University. His area of expertise: international affairs. It is at the same time supervisor for a curriculum for future teaching assistants. Meanwhile, he is a Research Associate on behalf of the North-South Institute in Ottawa.

" The first publication was produced jointly with David Carment, Brandon Lum and Milana Nikolko.His collaborator for the second publication was Jean Daudelin. He has also written chapters in numerous scientific publications. In April 2010, he has published in the Ottawa Citizen, in collaboration with David Carment, an article entitled " The Mauritian miracle and the Haitian Tragedy . "

His academic performance has earned Yiagadeesen Samy to win several scholarships. The last three were respectively a Graduate Fellowship from the University of Toronto between 1995 and 1996, a doctoral fellowship program in Canadian Francophonie Scholarship, and in 2008, the Faculty of Public Affairs at the University of Carleton gave him an Award of Excellence for his research.

They also enabled him to win at least eight financial allocations ranging from $ 2000 to $ 44,000, to enable him to continue his efforts in the field of research.

Yiagadeesen Samy his early education in primary school Rivalland Philippe. He did his secondary studies at the Royal College of Curepipe.He holds a BA in economics and mathematics and a certificate stating an excellent level of bilingualism at the University of York. He also holds an MA in Economics from the University of Toronto and a PhD in Economics from the University of Ottawa. Before his departure for Canada, Yiagadeesen Samy was successively Bank Clerk at the Mauritius Commercial Bank, Credit Officer at South East Asian Bank Ltd, Marketing Officer and the Mauritius Freeport Authority. Yiagadeesen Samy is the father of two daughters aged 5 and 2 years. His wife is a consultant.
