Petite-Rivière: Chemicals Cernol on Fire from 2.30 am, 60 Firefighters Mobilized

At 11:00 on Tuesday 25 December, sixty firefighters were mobilized to tackle the flames at the factory. The Head of Operations, Divisional Fire Officer, Dorsamy Ayacouty, said at the time that his men were preparing to carry out the most difficult, namely to overcome the main source of the fire.

The fire started in a warehouse of paper and perfumes. " It's an oven inside , "says Dorsamy Ayacouty. Therefore, firefighters had to use drastic measures. Some donned a fireproof suit and are equipped with oxygen cylinders.

" This is the only place where there are flammable. For cons, the danger is less in other warehouses which are stored detergents. And they are not flammable , "says Gerard Garrioch, a director of Cernol Chemicals.

In the direction of the factory, there were no toxic fumes. As for the origin of the fire, it could be a short circuit. " I do not think either firecrackers or fireworks `artifice, because all our warehouses are closed , "said Gerard Garrioch. 

The fire broke out around 2:00 am. These are smoke detectors that operated alarm and twenty minutes later, firefighters were on site. The four elements of fire stations, those of Coromandel, Curepipe, Quatre-Bornes  and Port Louis has been mobilized.

There were no reported injuries.
