The Financial Future Looks Bright: Your 2013 Money Horoscope

9 years, 6 months ago - December 31, 2012
We place a lot of value on creating a budget, establishing an emergency fund and foreseeing financial challenges as best we can. But what if there are circumstances beyond our control that can influence our finances? And by "circumstances," we mean astrological forces.

Hey, it could happen.

Astrology writer and counselor Judi Vitale, C.A. (NCGR), shares with us her best insights on what 2013 means for your money--no matter what your zodiac sign. So settle in, open your mind and prepare to get the download on your money horoscope for the coming year.

Capricon (December 22 - January 19)

You rarely worry about money, because you usually can acquire it without any visible effort. You have an exceptionally strong talent for getting to the top of your field, no matter what you do. Even if you’re not a huge earner, you still manage to keep yourself afloat, and usually in a rather nice vessel, too! Your skill at seeing the big picture almost guarantees you’ll be safe through retirement.

In 2013, however, be prepared to move out of your comfort zone and into territory that will allow you to reach a zip code that once only belonged in your wildest dreams. You’re probably getting quite comfortable with the powerful force of Pluto in your sign, and now you can use it to get what you want. The only danger? Becoming so domineering that you put others off. Use the charm and grace of Venus to help you channel your powers of persuasion in ways that will be better appreciated, and you’ll be more effective. Your best times for this: January, May and July.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

You have a concern for the collective that allows you to see beyond the selfish motivations people might have for earning money, but you also have enough sense to know that you must cover your basic needs. You will work very hard--often driving yourself into a state of exhaustion--in order to make sure that you have everything you require to survive, and even more so if it means that you can finance various visionary projects that could benefit the community or your circle of friends.

This year, outside events will bring your attention to the importance of balancing the process of striving for success with a healthy, happy home and family life. Avoid allowing yourself to become detached from emotional bonds because loved ones will pursue you relentlessly until you come to realize how much you rely on them to bring you comfort and security. The eclipses that take place on May 24th and November 3rd will provide the impetus you need to cover all the bases, so accept some help, love and affection from those who care about you.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Many brilliant financiers claim this zodiac symbol, so remember that no matter how many people say you’re “clueless” when it comes to money, you have the potential to be highly successful. You’ll always achieve the most when you follow Andrew Carnegie’s adage: “My heart is in the work.” The key that unlocks your passions can be found in serving some higher purpose--or pursuing a career for the fun and creativity of it.

In 2013, you’ll be in a phase of dreaming big, thanks to Neptune. While most would be baffled by this otherworldly influence, you’ll take to it--pardon the pun--like a fish to water. In February, particularly, you’ll be motivated to make changes that allow you to take steps toward taking charge of your financial life. Use the brute force of Mars to help you push your agenda in February, March and April. Then, over the summer, Saturn will add discipline and structure, so you can take your wildest ideas and transform them into big money-makers. Roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

Some might believe your impetuosity will lead to big financial mistakes, and that might occasionally be true. You believe you have to try everything at least once, and most times, you do. An immediate gratification policy is no good, though, when you can’t pay for it on the spot without draining your savings or hurting your credit.

Throughout 2013, you’re even more prone to react with those impulsive parts of your personality, thanks to the fearless planet Uranus in your sign. In particular, watch out during March, when a whole parade of planets (including the sun, Venus and Mars) marches through your sign and brings out your wild side. Slow down and be more circumspect from July through mid-December, while you think through the consequences of a big move that could make or break your monetary well-being. By the end of the year, you can decide whether it’s right for you.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

When people want to make safe and prudent financial policies, they come to you for advice. Your emphasis on preservation and certainty over risk pays off much in the same way that the proverbial tortoise beat the tail off that famous fable hare. The first half of the year will be a continuation of the fabulous feeling--sort of like discovering you have a doting, rich uncle--that’s been around since the prosperous planet Jupiter entered your house of earning and spending last June.

Even with a handsome cash flow, don't let that feeling of abundance to tempt you into spending more than you should. More than ever, you must fatten your savings to protect you from the potential pain of leaner times. In 2013, things will slow down during February, July and December while the ruler of your financial life, Mercury, moves backward through the sky. But as long as you refrain from excessive indulgences, you can keep your balance sheet in the black.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Your attitude toward finances can be much like the rest of you: unpredictable, inventive, ingenious and somewhat detached from the details. Not only does your attention appear and disappear like an elusive magician, but you have an impulsive and broody approach toward your financial life. This stems from the moon, celestial orb of many moods, holding rulership over your house of earning and spending.

Because you will often try to put financial basics on the back burner so you don’t have to deal with them, you could fall victim to events that are out of your control in 2013. You already realize it’s prudent to be in a position to deal with those awful “rainy days,” but it’s even better to know when you might need the extra-strong, windproof umbrella. Eclipses spark change, and there will be a few this year: two on April 25th and October 18th in your house of health and work, and another on May 24th in your house of partnerships. Look out for expenses and earning opportunities that could crop up in these areas of your life.

Canser (June 21 - July 22)

You tend to give to all of the people around you all of the time--and they often wonder how you have anything left for yourself. Little do they know that you always have a secret stash of money somewhere because you can’t stand the thought of being left without a financial security blanket. If you run out of cash that you’ve got squirreled away, chances are that your penchant for tradition--as well as acquisition that borders on major hoarding--has led you to collect valuable items, no matter how old or cumbersome they might be. You’ll take the family silver over extra closet space any day.

In 2013, you will probably be very glad that you have said silver to fall back on, especially if you’re leaving any of your money to luck. Saturn, the planet of cold, hard reality, will spend this year in your house of speculation, putting a damper on hot and fast day trading as well as lottery dreams. Stick to the basics this year, and be satisfied with keeping your head above water. There’s nothing shameful in working hard and “just” paying the bills.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

You’re always conscious of your social status, and you often use money as a measure of your progress. There’s nothing wrong with this, even if people do accuse you of placing too much emphasis on the “material world.” Truth be told, most of the time, you only want money so you can help take care of other people. You love being able to see family and friends live up to their full potential, and you help them along by leading rather than enabling.

This year, be successful by taking advantage of Mars in your sign during the late summer and early fall. Let the planet of fire, ambition, energy and focus provide you the incentive to employ your talents and unlock your passions. On and around September 14th, you could be inspired with a stroke of genius, when planet Uranus delivers an “Aha!” moment. Clear your schedule so you’ll be free at that time to execute a stream of ideas you can take right to the bank.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)

Although you have a reputation for being totally organized and “together” about all things money, no one really knows what you go through. You can be quite a worrier, who’s often unsure about what you want to do. This could be due to the fact that the indecisive sign of Libra rules your house of acquisition and disbursements. You hesitate less because you don’t know what you like and more because you don’t want to give up any of your options. You just need to go with your gut.

The nebulous planet Neptune might give you a good dose of what it feels like to fly by the seat of your pants when it continues its long visit through your house of partnerships. In 2013, you'll learn that, when it comes down to brass tacks, your financial safety will be entirely up to you. An extreme moment of clarity could come about when Neptune awakens from its retrograde period on November 13th.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

You have a definite desire to enjoy the finer things in life, but you don’t always focus on how you can earn or save enough money to support these habits. Even if you aren't a lover of all things luxury, your fine eye and good taste usually put you in the high end of the market--and often leave you with more bills than you can handle. So you probably need to push yourself harder to become more masterful about money.

In 2013, there will be several factors that affect your ambition—one of which might be a strong sense of “need” you have due to the presence of Saturn in your house of income and spending. It may feel as though you have to work twice as hard to earn half the money you used to make. Some of this might simply be your perception, and things may not be as bad as they seem. On June 11th, Neptune will bring insight (and hope) to your situation.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

You’re smarter than most of us, and you don’t mind showing it through your financial talents. You usually can manage to hold your own when it comes to keeping the books straight and cash flowing in the right direction, which comes from your total comfort around money and the things it can do for you. The planet Jupiter brings confidence and accomplishment to the way you procure your material well-being. You also have an incisive sixth sense, particularly about people and how good they are for you.

For the most part, you’ll make a lot of money by joining forces with others in 2013 because Jupiter will stay in your house of shared assets until June. After that, it will enter your house of international relations. You can consider investments in the import-export business or meet a worldly sort who can help you make even more money. Look for this person in late April and early May, when your house of partnership hosts the planets Venus and Mars--and the power of attraction is particularly strong.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

You have a very lax attitude about money--and that’s probably because you usually make it almost by accident. If you don’t attract others into your life who can help to ensure that things are taken care of, you do it yourself through ingenuity and charm. There is that expensive travel habit of yours to bankroll, however, and your sense of curiosity and adventure can often tempt you to go into debt.

Rather than telling yourself the next trip to Iceland or Aruba can be on the “pay later” plan, fill little treasure chests and call them things like “relief from the winter blahs fund.” You can learn to love this new attitude about money starting in January, when Venus makes the act of balancing earning and spending seem more appealing. When Venus meets up with your ruling planet Jupiter in June, you can truly come to appreciate the benefits of saving up just enough to get you where your wild and roving heart most definitely wants to go.
