A minimum of 21 points in three subjects at A Level required for those wishing to pursue studies in medicine or dentistry

The criteria for the registration of doctors and dentists have been reviewed by the Ministry of Health to improve the skills of medical Mauritius. Amendments to the Medical and Dental Council Act and are in force since January 1st Tuesday. Those wishing to practice in the country shall, upon registration to study medicine or dentistry, have a minimum of 21 points in three subjects at A Level, obtained their first attempt. In addition, new medical graduates trained in Mauritius and abroad, will be required to pass an examination after the training of pre-registration.

Since January 1, those entering training in medicine or dentistry and wishing to practice in Mauritius are required to have three A Level. To be admitted to the BSc (Hons) Medical Science offered by the University of Mauritius since 1997, aspiring students must have at least two A and B in their core subjects - including biology and chemistry - Higher exams School Certificate.

Several foreign universities do not, however, require much during registration. Many medical students trained elsewhere have therefore no Advanced Level Qualifications. The following paragraph was added as Article 22 of the Medical and Dental Council Act after the Economic and Financial Measures (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2012: "A person enrolling on a course leading to a diploma in medicine or a diploma in dentistry in Mauritius Shall Prior to Embarking on a diploma in medicine or dentistry Produces a certificate, certified copy or a certificate of a, Stating That He Has Passed at one sitting Any 3 subjects at Advanced ('A') Level (or its equivalent) , with a minimum of 21 points, based on the Following scale (or equivalent Such scale as may be approved by the Council on the recommendation of the Ministry responsible for the subject of education. "

A board of Post Graduate Medical Education will also be established to advise the Medical and Dental Councils of recording physician specialists and dentists. New medical graduates trained in Mauritius or abroad, must also pass an exam after the training of pre-registration.

The Continuous Professional Development will be mandatory for all doctors and dentists practicing in the territory of Mauritius in September 2013. In addition, a Health Professional Bill is being prepared to regulate the practice of healthcare professionals, doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists.

Central School of Nursing will, in turn, reorganized in preparation of nursing students in Nursing diploma. The syllabus has been accredited by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority. A program is designed for nurses already employed and who do not have the Certificate of Nursing. 215 students in Nursing, completing their training in 2013, will be recruited as nurses in hospitals. Another batch of nurses will also join this year the hospital.
