If these flash floods have dealt a heavy blow to thousands of individuals, businesses and services, it is still too early to estimate what they will cost the Mauritian economy. However, economist Eric Ng Ping Cheun, estimates that the cost is quite high, between 400 and Rs 500 million.
"It is difficult to evaluate at this stage. The fleet was very touched. Second, small businesses and I doubt that they are insured. Stocks were damaged. There for them a loss, "says the economist.
"Now, we must consider the number of days not worked and that services were affected and finally, damage to infrastructure and the losses suffered by the victims," says Eric.
