E-Judiciary: Entry of Commercial Litigation in Supreme Court Now Available Online

Submission of documents and entry of business cases can now be done via the Internet through the Service E-Judiciary . The first phase of this system was launched this Thursday, April 4, in the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen in the presence of the Attorney General Yatin Varma, Justice Paul Lam Shang Leen, Judge Benjamin Joseph and Mary the Director of Public Prosecutions, Satyajit Boolell.

The service also aims to improve the business climate in Mauritius. According to the General Attorney , it will help increase investor confidence by accelerating the processing of commercial disputes.

The chief judge, for his part, welcomed the initiative while stating that the project should be completed in 2011. " The whole project started in January 2010 and the system should be launched in September 2011. But there was a delay in the transfer of data , "says Bernard Sik Yuen. He stated, however, that this first phase covers only cases of a commercial nature. "Secondly, the service will be extended to family and criminal cases , "he adds.

After a first launch attempt failed because of a problem connecting to the Internet, the chief judge did not fail to appeal to the Minister of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum for a faster connection.

Moreover, when questioned by the press at the end of the launch, the Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed that this is only the end of the police investigation into the death of a dozen people during floods in the capital that a judicial inquiry would be initiated.
