Airport Hotel Limited, a subsidiary of Omnicane Limited, concluded on 2 May in Dubai a franchise agreement for the Holiday Inn with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).

The Holiday Inn Airport Hotel will have 140 rooms near the new terminal at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Local and international customers will benefit from the full range of services worldwide in airport hotels. The new facility, the first of its kind in Mauritius, will come into operation in mid-December 2013 and will employ 150 people.

Located 700 meters from the SSR International Airport, the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel will meet the specific needs of a market segment looking for services that meet the needs and requirements of national and international clients requiring services usually offered by hotels of international airport. This coincides with the start of operations in August of the new terminal of the SSR International Airport. The Holiday Inn Airport Hotel Mauritius will complement the offer modern hotel services and meet, among others, the requirements of business customers just next to the airport.

The agreement covers the design, implementation and management of the project under the prestigious Holiday Inn brand, global industry benchmark, "said Jacques Unienville CEO Omnicane, after the signing of the agreement in Dubai on May 2. Jacques Unienville has also stated that the Holiday Inn brand is undoubtedly a contribution of considerable value to the destination Mauritius, whose reputation is well established globally.

Continuing, he added: "With Holiday Inn, we are sure to provide a reliable level of service and quality to visitors. Furthermore, the attention that IHG to the local environment and its respect for the specific characteristics of the site in terms of biodiversity we were very impressed and we are pleased to be partnering with the group on this exciting project. Finally, we also confirm the realization of this innovative project and to meet the needs of the country the act of trust and faith of our economic base in the southern region of the country, in line with the principles of sustainable development promoted by Omnicane " .

The license agreement for a period of 20 years, includes the redevelopment of a land base of more than 15,000 square meters on which the hotel is built in typical Mauritian tradition in design and character. The combined use of ornamental steel, hardwood shutters and pergolas give a local touch to the architecture. Among the facilities offered to residents of 131 standard rooms and 9 'executive' include a gym, a spa, a lounge bar, a terrace, a swimming pool, a restaurant as well as five conference rooms and a large banquet hall overlooking a rest in the garden.

The exploitation of the local botanical diversity is keeping the majority of the existing wildlife while providing a relaxation area on the 3rd floor, with a touch 'nature'. The implementation of sustainable design initiatives resulting in an effort to use natural ventilation and low-emissivity glazing in living areas.

The carbon footprint of the institution is itself reduced by the use of local building materials such as wood and stone.
