Estimates: Declining Growth in Contraction in Construction

The contraction in the construction sector, among others, brings Statistics Mauritius to revise downward its growth forecast for 2013. For the National Accounts, published Wednesday, June 26, indicate that the country's growth will be 3.3%, while in March Statistics Mauritius had forecast growth of 3.5%.

3% in 2012, the contraction in the construction sector is estimated at 7.7% this year. This is due largely to the completion last year of major projects.

Statistics Mauritius forecasts growth of 2.1% in the manufacturing sector this year. Lower than the 2.2% rate recorded last year.

For the hospitality industry and restaurants, a growth of 2.5% is expected. This estimate is based on projections of 990,000 tourist arrivals this year.
