Tax-Drain Devices Boosts Sales Of LED TVs

The tax on devices that have an "Energy Efficient Index" high comes into force next week. But already this affects consumer behavior. A new trend is observed among dealers TVs: an increased interest for LED screens.

"The demand for televisions with technology LED backlight gradually accelerates, quarter after quarter, and consumers are beginning to consider the purchase option number one. This behavior is mainly due to the fact that these TVs have a power consumption really lean, "notes Navin Peerthy, regional director of Samsung Indian Ocean, in a statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, August 27.
This will boost the sales further in the coming weeks: the entry into force of the tax on energy devices. Refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers or washing machines are 25% higher in September. This measure was also in the 2013 budget.
The tax will be applied only on devices which Energy Efficient Index exceeds a certain threshold. To be exempt, importers must prove that the devices are not large consumers of energy in producing an Energy Efficiency Certificate. A close to the Ministry of Finance therefore advises consumers to ask sellers if the devices have this certificate. In doing so, he said, they will not buy products with 25% tax.
