The importer in question must, necessarily, submit details that can be checked and verified against the MSB. It is only after this verification exercise of documents by the MSB and the Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) that items will be cleared and placed on the market. The control will be rigorous.
Importers must always inform both agencies types of toys they intend to import so that samples can be submitted to MSB for verification against. In case the sample does not meet the required standards, the cargo in question will not be allowed on our territory.
There is also the fact that importers of toys need only submit copies of "compliances certificates" to clear toys. But every toy importer must meet European standards as prescribed by the Toys Regulations 1994.
We remember a few years ago, toys from Asia contained lead and PVC that are dangerous to the health of children.
