The 2014 wage compensation will only affect employees in the private sector reciving to Rs 20,000 per month. Those earning less than Rs 8100 will be entitled to a sum of Rs 300 while employees earning Rs 8101 to Rs 20,000 must have a 3.7% increase.
The decision was announced by the Minister of Finance at the tripartite meeting held at Government House, this Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. Despite a proposal against unions Xavier Luc Duval has maintained its position.
At a press conference held shortly after, the Finance Minister was pleased that 280,000 of the 330,000 private sector employees receive compensation in January 2014 and that 130,000 of them will be entitled to a higher quantum inflation.
" If we decided to compensate those who are at the bottom of the scale is because we recognize the gap between rich and poor must be reduced , "said Xavier Luc Duval.
