Microsoft's search engine is offering advertisers "Hero Ads," or full-page ads, which come up when a user searches a specific company by name, according to Larry Kim, the chief technology officer of search marketing company Wordstream.
If you search for "Home Depot," "RadioShack" or "Walt Disney World" on Bing, for example, you might come face-to-face with a monster-sized, full-screen advertisement.
Additional search results will appear on the second page.
The new ads, which Bing announced at an event at Microsoft's campus on Wednesday, are being tested right now with select advertisers in the United States and users utilizing Windows 8.1, according to a company spokesperson.
In a statement, the spokesperson added: "Microsoft is testing the Hero Ads experience with a short list of brands in the U.S., including Land Rover, Jaguar, Home Depot, Norwegian Cruise Line, Radio Shack, Hertz, Volkswagen and a few additional popular brands. We will continue to solicit feedback from both users and marketers during this pilot and will use those learnings to create an experience that works best for advertisers and Windows 8.1 users."
