From, there are 27,408 men and 11,624 women. From this list, the vast majority are from Bangladesh, 18 429, followed by India which has 9,105 expatriates, China has 4,656 and Madagascar, 3596.
This is the manufacturing sector that employs the largest number of foreign workers is 29,846, while the construction in second position, in 6070 workers overseas territories. Last September, the Ministry of Labour has taken the decision to freeze the recruitment of foreign workers in the construction sector.
In all case, the bar 40 000 foreign workers in Mauritius will be reached by the end of the year. An increase of over 20% compared to 2008.
A report by the National Economic Social Council (NESC) published Thursday, November 21 reveals that they are 20,000 young Mauritians aged 16 to 24 years to be unemployed. Among them, 5,000 graduates. The NESC points out that even if they are thousands of young Mauritians unemployed, the textile sector and other sectors employ foreign workers.
