Presentation of the Interactive Tablet

The Minister of Education and Human Resources, Vasant Bunwaree and senior officials of the department and the Private Secondary Schools Authority (PSSA) made a formal presentation of tablets this week. They will be distributed at the beginning of March to students who were in Form IV in 2013.

Mauritius Telecom and the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE) led this presentation of the tablet. The Mauritius Institute of Education is responsible for the educational content and educational resources while Mauritius Telecom handles hardware.

The contract between Mauritius Telecom and the Ministry was signed on 4 December 2013 to ensure delivery of 26,100 tablets. The production of these tablets was completed January 9, 2014 in China and tablets arrived in Mauritius on January 15th. They were immediately distributed to the office of the Private Secondary Schools Authority.

The Ministry of Education and MIE provided training, for teachers involved in the inspection of tablets between 27 and 30 January. The verification exercise began on February 3 and ends at the end of the month. February 11, 8500 some tablets have already been verified, or 33% of the total. About 20,700 tablets will be given to students and 5400 to their teachers . Around 1,761 educational materials were developed in 11 different subjects.
