"Mauritius, a 'Success Story' in Africa"
The report of the Global Enabling Trade Index 2014 World Economic Forum ranks Mauritius in 29th place out of 138 countries in the world.

With this classification, Mauritius remains the best economy in Africa and is considered a regional champion in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Global Enabling Trade Index shows Mauritius as a 'Success Story' in Africa. Evaluated over 138 countries worldwide through various sub-indices, the Mauritian economy continues to be a leader on the African continent. The report highlights that Mauritius is a save success in terms of business development in Africa and indicates that the strong sales performance is reflected in its results in this report. Another positive point is that Mauritius 100 places ahead of the other weaker economies in region.

The report examines each commercial performance under different criteria. The index 'market access' has two pillars that are access to the domestic market and international market. According to these two criteria, Mauritius is ranked 4th and 5th places respectively and a score of 6.1 and 4.5 out of 7. "Access to domestic market is completely free, with very low rates, averaging 0.8% and Mauritius enjoys a preferential margin of maneuver on prices in targeted markets," can be read in the document.

At the 'Availability and Quality of Transport Infrastructure', Mauritius gets a score of 4.1 points and positions to 56th. Concerning the category 'Availability and Quality of Transport Services', Mauritius ranks 37th out of 138 countries with a score of 4.2 points. "The infrastructure is quite satisfactory and the business climate in general is conducive to trade with regulations that are open to foreign direct investment, satisfactory levels of physical security and a fair and efficient judicial system," the report says.

On the 'Border Administration’ that includes pillar 'Efficiency & Transparency of Border Administration', Mauritius is ranked 53rd place with a score of 4.3 points. At the availability and use of Information Technology and Communication, Mauritius is ranked 67th place and a score of 4. Under the Pier 'Operating Environment', it is positioned at the 32nd place and a score of 4.8 out of 7. In addition, the report notes that improvements are still needed in terms of the availability of the quality of logistics services in the country. "The advanced logistics services, including the monitoring of goods or reliability in terms of the speed of production, are not available in the country," the report says.
