MRA Demands Rs 500 Million from 75 Operators
The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has served a claim for tax of Rs 500 million from 75 operators of gambling houses operating slot machines without the appropriate license.

The exercise of voluntary disclosure, which involves the regularization of records tax evaders should allow the tax administration to raise Rs 500 M. These 75 operators eventually report to the agency that they did not hold the appropriate license for the operationalization of 'limited payout machine. They are left with a claim of Rs 420 M. But in the MRA is pointed out that Rs 500 million will be harvested.

The 'Incentive Schemes 2013', which guarantee criminal impunity encouraged some tax evaders to regularize their situation. This was made possible following an operation "crack down" of the MRA. Many slot machines have also been seized. These are devices called "Limited Payout Machines" which are different from those found in casinos. The player in question receives points as gains and these points are converted into money. These operators have not paid the tax. Therefore, they should at least pay Rs 500,000 to get the right license and other taxes in order to operate these machines. Other gambling houses operating illegally are also in the sights of "Fiscal Investigation Department" of the MRA.
