Pamela Anderson Delivers the Pleas of Thousands to Mauritius’ High Commission

The petition comes after video footage, released by International Animal Rescue and PETA, revealed that workers from the government-funded Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare are using barbaric lethal injections to kill dogs they’ve hunted down on the streets. So far, 179,000 people have signed, calling for an immediate end to cruel methods of killing dogs on the island and for the introduction of a comprehensive, humane sterilisation programme.

The video shows that dogs are injected, without being given painkillers, in an apparent attempt to puncture the heart. The doomed animals do not die instantly. Instead, they stagger around in agony before eventually collapsing in full view of as many as 20 fellow canines. The remaining dogs desperately try to climb the gates and walls of the kennel in a bid to escape.

In a message to the High Commission, Pamela pleads:

How can people enjoy a vacation on your “Paradise Island” while knowing that such horrors are taking place near their hotels?

Dogs are very loving and sensitive beings. We owe it to them to find a compassionate solution to the overpopulation crisis in Mauritius.

In addition to the international outrage, hundreds of people on the island have come together and demanded action from their government to end this cruelty.
