Minimum Wage And Wage Compensation...
Tripartite consultations on salary compensation began on Monday. The labor minister met with trade unionists, representatives of the private sector and members of certain government departments to decide on the amount of salary compensation.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Soodesh Callichurn said the inflation rate in Mauritius for 2023 was estimated at 7.1%. He stressed, however, that the minimum wage of 15,000 rupees, applicable from January 2024, and the exercise of the day to determine the amount of salary compensation are two “separate” things.

He also informed that according to Statistics Mauritius, the inflation rate forecast for this year is 7.1%. This figure, the minister stressed, is based on the final consumer price index for the period from January to August 2023, and on an estimate for the period from October to December 2023.

Furthermore, the minister indicated that a meeting will be held with the Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr. Renganaden Padayachy, on Thursday, December 7, 2023, to determine the compensation rate for the year 2024 .
